Elizabeth Lusskin
President, Long Island City Partnership
Local businesses play a critical role in reinforcing what is possible in a neighborhood for its children. The Long Island City Partnership, Long Island City’s neighborhood development organization, has served as a model for how to use the Save for College Program as a tool to improve neighborhood outcomes. Under Liz Lusskin’s leadership, the Long Island City Partnership was a lead partner in the first-ever neighborhood-wide Community Scholarship campaign, Funding Long Island City’s Future. Members of the Partnership participated in the campaign video, donated funding, and spread the word. The Partnership highlighted the Campaign at their annual meeting and regular newsletter. As a result of the Funding Long Island City’s Futures Campaign, every child with a NYC Scholarship account at P.S. 76, P.S. 111, P.S. 112, Growing Up Green Charter School, and VOICE Charter School at the time received a $60 Community Scholarship.
