Trecia Parsons

School Secretary, P.S. 111

School Team members – Principals, Assistant Principals, Teachers, School Secretaries, Parent Coordinators and so many others – have each played an important role in building the Save for College Program. School Secretaries across District 30 have shaped and implemented a foundational element of the Save for College Program – the opt-out process. Every student in a participating elementary school, starting in kindergarten, automatically receives an NYC Scholarship Account invested in the NY 529 Direct Plan, unless their family chooses not to participate, removing barriers for participation in the Program. The NYC Department of Education led professional development with support from NYC Kids RISE, to support Secretaries, including Ms. Trecia Parsons from P.S. 111, in learning about the Save for College Program, the opt-out process at each school and to gather their feedback on how to refine and improve the process.
